The government and industry in Egypt launched this year “E-Tadweer,” an initiative to promote the safe recycling of outdated electronic items. A Google Play and App Store app allow residents to sign in and upload pictures of e-waste they’re no longer using or outdated gadgets that no longer have a market, then head to the drop-off points specified by the app and hand over the devices. In reward, they receive vouchers to purchase new devices at partner stores, currently Vodafone and Raya. Read more
